Famous Montessori Students

Larry Page and Sergey Brin, founders of the popular Internet search engine Google.com, credited their years as Montessori students as a major factor behind their success. When asked in an interview with Barbara Walters in 2004 if they attribute their success to their parents being college professors, they said no, that it was their going to a Montessori school where they learned to be self-directed and self-starters. They said that their Montessori education allowed them to learn to think for themselves and gave them freedom to pursue their own interests. Some other famous former Montessori students include: Jeff Bezos, financial analyst, founder, Amazon.com; Katherine Graham, owner/editor of the Washington Post; Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, editor, former first lady (John F. Kennedy); Anne Frank, famous diarist from World War ll; and Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Nobel Prize winner for Literature.
