About Primary

Preschool learning comes alive at the Montessori School of Westminster

Our individual learning programs for children ages 2 through 6 focus on cognitive and social development rather than just rote knowledge. Children who attend our Montessori school learn self-discipline and self-sufficiency at an early age.

children encounter a full array of Montessori tools

In the Primary classrooms, each with a Montessori-trained guide and the classroom aide, children encounter a full array of Montessori tools specifically designed to guide the child through exploration and investigation.

Learning in a Montessori School of Westminster classroom is both exciting and challenging, yet the environment remains calm and respectful. The Montessori Three-year teaching cycle helps develop within the child a level of comfort and confidence that encourages attention and participation during each stage of learning and increases retention of knowledge as the child progresses at his or her own pace.

About Montessori

practical life, sensorial, language, math, & cultural subjects

In order for the child to trust his environment and his power to interact with it in a positive way, the guide has grouped the materials according to the interest they appeal to, and arranged in sequence as to their difficulty or degree of complication. Focus is given to arranging the shelves according to practical life, sensorial, language, math, and cultural subjects.

“Scientific observation then has established that education is not what the teacher gives; education is a natural process spontaneously carried out by the human individual, and is acquired not by listening to words but by experiences upon the environment.” – Dr. Maria Montessori, Education For A New World

Attending Primary

observing the abundance of nature that encompasses our campus

Children attending our Primary program will have lessons with our Spanish and Environmental Educators once a week. Each day the children will have ample time to explore the outdoors whether on one of playgrounds or a walk through the woods observing the abundance of nature that encompasses our campus.

Classes meet from 8:30 AM through 11:50 AM Monday through Friday. Our “Extended Day” services through 3 PM include either a napping option or additional classroom time throughout the afternoon. Before- and After-School Care programs are available too.
