Hike-a-Thon

Hike-a-Thon 2021

Thank you to our students, families, friends, and sponsors who made our first Hike-a-Thon a success!

Our students logged more than 500 miles and the event raised more than $8000 for the school.

Welcome to the Montessori School of Westminster’s inaugural Hike-a-Thon! This year we needed a virtual, socially-distanced, outdoor activity, and there is something about getting out in the woods that seems to embody the MSW spirit! The MSW Hike-a-thon is designed as both a community-building activity and fundraiser. It supports the Montessori principle of spending time outdoors, learning in the environment, and supporting the overall physical and mental benefits of exercising outdoors. This is a family activity that parents and siblings join, and family & friends from anywhere can support financially through sponsoring students as well as physically by registering as “Trail Guide” hikers. The virtual nature of the event over a several week timeframe allows families to choose trails best suited to their level and times that work best for their schedules.

Pledge drive

current students

Current MSW students will collect pledge money from sponsors based on the number of miles they hike during the three-week event. There is no entry fee, and every student will have the opportunity to do at least one hike on campus with their Environmental Ed class.

One hike or 10 – miles are cumulative over all the hikes! Mileage can be submitted during the event online or to the student’s Guide, so we can track how far each class has hiked and how many miles the school has logged during the event. We know not everyone will submit all their hikes during the event, so be sure to hang on to your master mileage sheet so you can collect your per mile pledges and turn in your entire package! There will be the opportunity for students to win prizes as they meet mileage and fundraising milestones.

Family & Friends Can Hike Too!

How to support your student hiker:
1. Sponsor them. You can give cash or a check to the student or pay your pledge online.

2. If you’re local, take the time to schedule a few afternoons on the trails with your MSW student(s).

3. Register as a Trail Guide!
Family members and friends can pay a $25 registration fee and participate similarly to a virtual 5K event – no set trails or events to attend, and Trail Guides do not need to collect pledges! Local and out-of-state grandparents, alumni, and community members are welcome to join us on our virtual hike and show your support for MSW!

4. Share photos of your hike! Upload photos to our Facebook event.
